Photos & Art by Dave Flores.
Born and raised under the California sky, my grandfather taught me how to draw a Shark Squadron Mustang IV warplane at the age of five. This started my immediate decline in schoolwork as I would repeatedly draw this image everyday in class, creating war scenes and dog fights. Consequently, leading me to the world of summer school for the next 12 years.
I moved to Chicago in the spring of 2009 not knowing a single person. To pass the time I taught myself to paint and learn photography, as I had with drawing. Painting has consumed most of my time since moving to Chicago, working mainly with oils. After finishing my second completed piece titled “Wrigley,” I entered it into a contest and it was featured in a local publication.
After living in New York City for a year, I became fascinated with street art and large-scale murals. I realized this is what I want my future to be. Chicago being home, I moved back and worked primarily with spray paint, doing custom commissioned pieces while trying to find an opportunity to accomplish my goal - creating my first mural. In the summer of 2018 I was able to achieve this goal and completed the “Oglesby Mural” in Englewood, Illinois.
